Many business owners find themselves overwhelmed, stretched too thin, or struggling to grow their business.
Second Mesa exists to help owners of agricultural companies reach higher levels of business performance, value, and personal satisfaction. While our typical client leads a company with annual revenues between $5 million and $150 million, our focus isn’t on size—it’s on owner-led businesses that are ready and committed to cultivate tomorrow today.
We provide attainable guidance that’s equal parts business coaching and advisory—helping business owners gain control, drive change, and move forward with clarity and confidence.
Our clients span the agri-food chain, including input suppliers, ag retailers, equipment dealers, crop and dairy farms, vertically integrated growers, food processors, and AgTech. Whether you operate upstream, downstream, or somewhere in between, we bring firsthand understanding of the dynamics and pressures you face.
Led by Scott Wiley, a veteran agricultural leader and award-winning three-time CEO, Second Mesa brings strategic clarity, deep operational insight, and the heart of a teacher to every client relationship—helping business owners drive impactful results and reclaim their time.
At the core of our approach is PILLAR, our proven framework designed to help clients gain clarity, reduce dependency, and move forward with confidence—whether the goal is growth, succession, or a future sale.
Few firms combine the strategic perspective and operational depth needed to responsibly coach and advise agricultural business owners like you.
Even fewer bring the dedication to walk alongside you as a vested partner.
Scott is a sought-after business coach and advisor to agricultural business owners. He is known for guiding companies through pivotal moments in their lifecycle—helping owners shape their business to fulfill its promise and realize their vision of success and legacy. Over a three-decade career in agriculture, Scott has led or coached privately held companies through every stage of the business journey—from startup and growth to operational excellence, peak performance, succession, and ownership transition.
Scott’s business philosophy is rooted in two core principles: clarity builds the confidence to act, and freedom follows structure. He believes that when owners step back to gain perspective and apply the right structure, they make better decisions, lead with less frustration, and build businesses that thrive beyond their daily involvement.
With deep experience across the agri-food value chain, Scott brings firsthand insight from leadership roles in input manufacturing, ag retail, equipment dealerships, large-scale crop and dairy production, AgTech, and consumer brands. This breadth enables him to quickly understand a client’s business dynamics and deliver high-impact guidance—no matter where a company sits in the value chain.
A certified business coach and master facilitator, Scott is valued most for his time in the operator’s seat—and for his ability to bring clarity, structure, discipline, and real-world performance systems to owner-led companies. He has served as CEO and board director for multiple companies across the agri-food chain, navigating the same strategic and operational challenges his clients face.
Scott also was the lead advisor on major acquisitions and integrations involving some of the sector’s most notable transactions—giving him a rare perspective on how to create, enhance, and realize business value. Additionally, he served as a strategic advisor and coach to the soil and crop sciences department at a top agricultural university, where he also chaired its Industry Advisory Board.
Clients working with Scott experience the heart of a teacher, the discipline of a seasoned operator, and the perspective of an investor—helping them grow their business and live their future.
